What is “Grants in Action”?
Each month, during our OEF Board Meeting, the OPS Teacher representatives assigned to the board present information focused on one teacher and how they use the grant money received. OEF would like to share this exciting information with you, so you can now see how the monies you have donated over the years is being used.
April 2024
Sarah Wehner is a Pre-K Teacher at Mills Elementary. She received a grant to enable Mills to open a care closet. Ms. Wehner attended the weekly assembly and shared the project and how to use it with Mills students. She showed this video and you could hear the oohhs & ahhhs in the crowd.
March 2024
Sarah Wingard received a grant for adaptive seating, two wagons (a Wonderfold 4-seater wagon and a Radio Flyer Push Wagon), and a sand table with various sensory items: sand, pinto beans, and rice.
February 2024
Amy Hodges received art supplies and black lights from OEF. Fourth and fifth graders at Bailey Elementary learned about the Day Glo Brothers. They invented the neon colors that glow under a black light. Students used art supplies from the OEF grant to create art for our black light art exhibit. Fifth graders created drip art inspired by LA artist Jen Stark. They used black and neon paint to mimic her style of art. Fourth graders created neon paper sculptures. They learned about different folds and 3D shapes.
January 2024
Angela received an OEF grant in the fall of 2019 for 6 Breakout Boxes. The boxes came with multiple-sized boxes that fit into each other and several types of locks. Breakoutedu.com has digital and kit-based games ready for use. Students and teachers can also create their own kit-based games using the design software. You can purchase a yearly subscription but there are many free resources online.
